On tattoos

Tattoos in general are taboo, especially to the Asian culture. Personally in my family, not everyone has tattoos and it still comes as a shock to some family members when they see a fellow family member with tattoos. Although most cultures accept tattoos nowadays, I myself am still scared of revealing my tattoos to my family. I am proud of my tattoos because they are very symbolic to me. There is a need and want to celebrate in these symbols with the social circle however, I get shy around family. Using light painting allows me to explore my tattoos and illuminate and celebrate them. But light also creates shadows and these shadows hide elements or when one steps into the shadow, it is like hiding. Light painting for me is a juxtaposition of what should be illuminated and celebrated versus what should be hidden in the shadows…
